With EMD E7, GP40 and SD40-2 locomotives. Portland Terminal is based in the historic and picturesque city of Portland, Maine.

From 1911 it was run by the Portland Terminal Company which handled switching duties for the Maine Central and Boston & Maine railroads, until 1981 when all three railroads were acquired by Guilford Transportation Systems. This company still operates in this area today under the name Pan-Am Railways.

The Portland Terminal Expansion Pack, developed by G-Trax, includes elements and locomotives from each of these eras, enabling you to operate the line with Maine Central and Boston & Maine locomotives as in the old days, or with more recent Guilford or Pan-Am liveried locomotives.

The route takes you down the main street alongside the harbour in amongst the road traffic and pedestrians, through Union Station and on to Rigby Yard where the old turntable and roundhouse (now demolished in real life) are fully operational, with numerous spurs serving industrial facilities and the port.

In order for him to get some better first-hand insights into the operations of the railroad around Portland, the company has arranged a special round trip for him. All in style by train, of course. You have been assigned as the engineer for this trip, which is a special treat as you will get to run the wonderfully restored Boston & Maine E7s up and down the tracks

After a quick snack at Snow's, it is now time to head on. Next destination on our round trip is the old Turner Island branch, which veers off the mainline at Rigby Wye and then heads into South Portland. Formerly a busy place with its own small switching yard and serving many industries, all that is left today are a few industrial spurs and an oil terminal. But climb on board the E7 again and see for yourself!

This is the final leg of the introductory run for the new division superintendent. This time we will travel from the Turner Island branch back to Rigby and almost to Union Station. But instead of going there we will head east from Portland Wye, along the abandoned Yard 8 and the historic Old Port district, across the Back Cove swing bridge into East Deering, the final destination on our journey. The new super should now have a pretty good idea what the PT is all about, and so will you

Today you have been assigned to run a local freight from Rigby Yard to Sprague Energy, delivering empty tank cars that will be loaded over the next few days.
